About Jennifer
I’ve been telling stories my entire life.
I didn’t write any down until I was eight years old. All the horror movies my mother let me watch with her inevitably inspired a tale about a killer with a suitcase full of knives, ultimately done in by a plucky girl who managed to karate-chop her way out of the cave he was holding her in. Yeah, I know — subtlety was something I definitely had to learn.
Honestly, my love for storytelling may go all the way back to the Christmas when I was four and found the Barbie Dreamhouse under the tree. That’s when I started concocting plotlines for my dolls that rivaled the drama and intrigue of any soap opera.
So when I went off to college, I decided to study writing more formally, majoring in Writing Seminars at The Johns Hopkins University. Baltimore turned out to be the perfect place to learn, too. Not only is Edgar Allan Poe’s grave within walking distance of the Inner Harbor, but my favorite writer, F. Scott Fitzgerald, once lived in the Cambridge Arms Apartments in Charles Village, which, years later, turned into a residence hall for undergrads at Hopkins.
Truly, there was inspiration around every corner.
After I graduated, I headed back to New York, where I worked for several financial publications, including The Daily Deal and VentureWire. In these roles, I researched, fact-checked, edited, and wrote copy from not-so-cozy little cubicles. I later worked a corporate job for a financial firm, which included writing quarterly letters and other marketing materials for investors.
Unfortunately, finance just wasn’t as inspiring as I’d hoped, so I transitioned to a freelance career where I could choose my own projects. That gave me the freedom to write about topics that got the creative juices flowing a little easier, like cooking, holiday decorating, or how to choose the perfect lipstick shade.
These days, I write articles, blog posts, social media posts, and other SEO-optimized content to help websites and businesses engage with their audience. I especially enjoy projects that require heavy research and product testing. I mean, last year, when I got to test five ice cream makers over the course of a month, I was pretty much living my best life.
In my spare time, I am a diligent servant to my two rescue dogs, Brandy and Jesse. I still love horror movies — the original “Black Christmas” isn’t just my favorite scary movie of all time; it’s one of my favorite movies, period — and will devour any type of murder mystery. I watch a ton of baseball and hockey, too, even though my father cursed my sisters and me with some of the most beleaguered teams to root for, the New York Mets and the New York Islanders.
